Wat Rokakandal – just 430m south of our guesthouse – is the oldest Pagoda in the Province. It dates back to the late eighteenth/early nineteenth century.
The structure of the building is of timber, this is now especially rare as most of these types of building were either plundered for their wood, or simply burnt down in the time of the Khmer Rouge. There are really very, very few of these left, it’s very special. For those travelling south, there’s another one in Kampong Cham, at Moya Leap, equally worth seeing (but not nearly as easy to get to!).
This Pagoda is still a place of worship, please dress and behave accordingly. If you find the gate locked, ask Dary to have it opened for you.
